In a thrilling high school sports matchup, the Fairfield Prep Jesuits faced off against the Hamden Green Dragons in an SCC conference game.
Hamden came out on top in a 9-7 victory, thanks in part to Maico Cardona's clutch performance.
Hamden opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second with two runs. Fairfield Prep was held scoreless until the third inning when they put up four runs, but Hamden had something to say with a comeback and seven runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth.
The sixth inning as mentioned, saw some dramatic action. AJ Aurora and Will Bendetti both hit back-to-back two-run hits for Hamden, tying the game up at 7-7.
With the game tied, Cardona stepped up to the plate and delivered a two-run single that put the Green Dragons ahead for good. It was a fitting end to an impressive performance from Cardona, who had two hits and two RBIs on the day.

Hamden's pitching was also instrumental in securing the win, as Matt Moreira struck out seven batters in five innings of work before giving way to Aiden Jovia, who pitched the final two innings to earn the win.
In the end, it was a hard-fought victory for the Hamden Green Dragons. Ryan Cappella and Maico Cardona both had two hits for Hamden, and key offense was provided by Aurora and Bendetti to help them bounce back and secure the game late.
Despite the loss, Fairfield Prep showed plenty of fight and resilience throughout the game, setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting rematch later in the season.
